Weekly Photo Challenge – Perspective

Interesting that perspective is this weeks photo-challenge.

It’s so important for us to realize that our lives are completely about the perspective we hold.

When we’re troubled by something, we tend to look at it very closely. Examining and taking notes of every little think that we don’t like.

But, if we can take a few steps back from the situations the true reality can come into focus.

I love the series of pictures I took below on a trip with my (Dionne’s) family to Guatemala. We were hiking up Pacaya, one of Guatemala’s most active volcanoes.

As I thought of our challenge today, this felt like the perfect opportunity share a deeper perspective on perspectives.

The first picture I took was of course, close up.

My next picture was of the grand view. Not of us huffing and puffing our way up the volcano. But the true majesty of what we were experiencing.

Don’t Worry, Just Be

It really is.

Don’t worry, everything is always working out for you. That difficult task in front of you. The solution you need but don’t know about. It’s already been done. Someone has already figured it out and knows how to do it. The research has been done and findings published. Easier ways have been discovered and created. Plans have been shared and tweaked to perfectly fit any situation.

It’s that easy. All the information we need is readily available, we just have to know how to find it.

And finding it is much easier than looking for a needle in a haystack. You actually don’t have to build any bridges or tear down any walls to get to it. And you don’t have to travel to far away places to find it. You don’t need airfare, a doctors note, your parents or spouses permission. It’s all right here, you just have to relax.

Our health can be recovered. Our finances can bounce back. Our family can once again(or for the first time) come together in harmony. Our every need can be fulfilled in any moment when we are willing to give up our struggle against and begin looking for what we want.

Everything we require or desire is available to us. If you didn’t already know this… just Google it.

My mom was staying with my son when we were out of town and he was attending a dressy function that required a tie. As I’m the one that always tied his ties, he ask his Grammie for help. She didn’t know how to tie it either, so, what to do?

That’s right, he Googled it.

“How to tie a Windsor knot” and Voilà! a long list of handy dandy videos and info-graphics explaining and giving a examples of how to do it. Done. That was easy! Next.

During the six years I helped run a very successful internet business I never had to reinvent the wheel. Every time a need or desire arose the first question was “how do we make this work?” and then I’d Google it and find more information than you could shake a stick at. Someone has done a review and given you a short list of the top software, sites, tutorials, videos, cameras, cars, web hosts, etc. If I couldn’t find it immediately, I’d say something like, “No worries! Won’t it be nice when I stumble across just the exact right thing we’re looking for?” And inevitably I’d find it.

Everything you need is out there. The answer to your prayer, the solution to your problem, the cure for your disease… all available and closer than you think.

The quickest way to finding what you need is to go within. Take a break from the whirlwind of your physical reality for a moment and just be. Take a few deep breaths now, in through your nose, filling your belly first and then your lungs, hold it for a couple seconds and release. Pull in your belly at the end to completely empty your lungs so you’re getting a full fresh breath every time. (Do that three to ten times whenever you need to relax and find a better perspective.)

Breathe and feel what you feel physically in your body. Listen to what kind of thoughts your mind is generating. Are they hopeful, helpful thoughts or are you singularly focused on the problem and how big and bad it is.

Your focus is creating your reality.

If there is something in your life you don’t like and don’t want, give yourself a moment to acknowledge the feelings of worry, fear, frustration and upset around the situation. Acknowledge your humanity and appreciate the fact that you are not the first person to deal with this issue and there are plenty of people who have made it through using a number of different approaches that you might not know about or understand.

For every question, there is an answer.

For every problem, there is a solution.

For every prescription drug, there is a natural remedy that that drug was derived from or created to replace.

There’s a shoe for every foot and an ass for every seat.

There are buyers for what you are selling that only want to buy from you. There is no competition, except in your mind.

There is nothing you can’t create or allow into your life if you know how the world works and are willing to work within it’s rules. (Your focus creates your reality. Have I said that before?)

For every problem, there IS a solution.

Nothing is impossible. It ain’t over till it’s over and if it isn’t over, you can find another way.

How do you find this way?

Stop reacting.

Let yourself be OK with however you feel right now. Accept your feelings as momentary, passing waves of emotion.

Emotion = Energy in Motion

Discover the power of poise. The next time you are struck by a powerful negative feeling or emotion allow yourself to relax and take three deep breaths. You’ll notice the intensity of the emotion begins to diminish in your body much more quickly than it does when you react out of fear, anger or frustration. As that feeling passes, clarity comes. Your deep emotion subsides and you are able to make better decisions and actually see the situation as the good information it is… a heads-up alert to what you’re creating.

Your emotions are a precise indicator of your focus and thoughts. Notice when you feel bad that you are focusing on lack, limitation, blame, anger, frustration, worry, irritation, etc. When you feel good you’re focused on and thinking about good things in your life, happy times, lovely family members, the great job you did, the many blessings you have or things that please you. This is quite simple and very easy for you to confirm and acknowledge to/for yourself.

I’ll give you a minute…

So you’ll now begin to recognize that what you are thinking about and focusing on, you are creating. Period. Bottom Line. End of Story. Therefore, whatever you are worrying about you are also creating.

But, don’t worry! We’re all human. We came by it honestly. It came by our birth into our families, communities and society that didn’t have the information we have now. They were raised thinking outside circumstances controlled their lives and that’s what we learned. But when you know better, you can do better.

Give yourself a break and practice focusing on your destination. Where do you want to go? What do you want to do? What experiences do you long for? Do you want to experience perfect health? Do you want to get married and have a baby? Do you want to be financially secure and free?

Think about what it is you most want to feel…  happy, loved and loving, satisfied, healthy, engaged, peaceful, excited, free, joyous and abundant? This is how you focus on the end result. The finish line. Not what you think it’s going to take to get you there. But, just being there.

Don’t worry about what it will take to make it happen, just do what’s right in front of you. When you put one foot in front of the other and take care of what you need to take care of, with your focus on the end result, the easier road with all it’s possibilities and solutions will present itself in the most delightful way.

Happy Thursday folks and here’s your public service announcement for today and the rest of your life.

As the holidays speed toward us and we have so much on our plates, it’s important we take care of ourselves physically (and emotionally!) so we don’t get too stressed and overwhelmed by the whole process.

With travel, gifts, meals, parties and events to plan, prepare and coordinate this time of year is notorious for fraying nerves. Carving out time for yourself to rest and revitalize will help everything come together much more smoothly and efficiently.

When we’re asleep, we are completely relaxed. We enjoy relief from whatever troubles we’ve been dealing with. Our minds let go and allow the universe to continue showering us with blessings we might have been denying during our waking time by focusing on problems or how much we still have left to do.

Plan for yourself to take short power-naps or longer whenever you are able and just watch what happens. Before your nap and as you’re going to sleep at night, lightly set your intention to relax and release your worries of the day while gaining clarity on courses of action and setting yourself up for success.

Once you understand the importance of soothing and caring for yourself everything changes. Giving yourself the time to relax between meetings, tasks, parties and planning insures you are bringing the very best of you to each task.

Many blessings for compassionate cooperation

Many blessings for compassionate cooperation

People are mad these days. Mad as hell and don’t want to take it any more. I say, good. Be mad. But then let it go.

Allow yourself to move through that energy and notice how you can shift the circumstances around you by not engaging. And even better than not engaging, how about blessing the person or situation you’re mad at?

I’ve had sessions this past week or so with folks angry, irritated or disgusted by either an individual or group of people. I can totally relate. We’ve all felt those less than warm and fuzzy feelings before and it’s absolutely OK.

Every feeling you have ever felt in your entire life is valid.

Those feelings were your natural reaction to the situation, given everything you’ve lived up to that point. So take a deep breathe and relax. It is OK and you are right to feel how you feel. But that doesn’t mean it can’t change.

We live in a society that wants to make us feel bad for how we feel.

“You shouldn’t feel that way!” “That’s not Christian of you to feel that way.” “That’s not the way I feel, you’re wrong.”

Any of these sound or feel familiar? Of course they do.

If we can’t understand and get frustrated when someone doesn’t like tomatoes or hates walnuts in their brownies, what do you think the reaction will be around subjects with deeper meaning like religion or politics?

We all believe what we believe. Beliefs are merely thoughts we think over and over again. We all think our beliefs are true, but they aren’t. Not necessarily. Unfortunately, some of our beliefs don’t serve us or anyone at all. Some of our beliefs are completely untrue.

We’re not taught to believe things by our parents or teachers by them saying… “Ok, kids! Pay attention. Today, I will teach you to believe ________.”

That didn’t happen.

What did happen was as children we were little sponges.

Our parents raised us and our preachers and teachers taught us like we were only listening to their words. Ha! Bless all of our hearts. I’m sure you can relate from your own experience the truth in this. We’ve all heard, “Do as I say, not as I do.” Guess what folks, it doesn’t work that way.

What we(ALL of us) as children did was pick up on the vibration, the attitude and the underlying meaning of why “they” did what they did. And filtering that through our own short life experiences, beliefs began to form in our little child minds.

Beliefs like…. “Women are supposed to take care of the house and children. Men don’t do dishes or housework. Girls have to be skinny, pretty and nice to get a husband. Boys have to work hard and make lots of money to get a girl. Women are supposed to make everything better. Daddies don’t stick around. I wasn’t good enough for them to love me. I have to be perfect all the time and never make mistakes. Men don’t respect women and think they are hysterical. Women have to take care of and protect themselves because men are neanderthals.”

Children grow up and learn how to treat people and how to allow people to treat them by watching their parents. Is their father kind, loving and respectful to their mother? Does their mother have her own power or does she always defer to father but then blow up and be angry with the children? Girls and boys learn much about the rules of society in their own homes. Whether kindness and compassion or impatience and abuse, they are affected by the circumstances around them.

What if they(we as children) saw and heard parents blessing their enemies?

What if children saw more kindness, gentleness and compassion in their homes? Not only the compassion that parents had for friends and loved ones, but also patience and compassion for people they disagreed with or didn’t appreciate. What change might that bring about?

How can you begin to bless the people that irritate or frustrate you most? Without making huge sweeping moves, what small ways can you begin to bless everyone around you.

What do you think would happen if everyone took a moment to say. “I really can’t stand this person, but wow, they must be suffering to act like that. Or what must they have been through to be like that? Bless their heart.” And then say, bless my heart for having to deal with them. Let yourself feel and move the energy around the situation while giving yourself and the opposing party a break.

Who can you send blessings to today that you have profound judgements about?

What you do for others, you do for yourself. When you judge, curse and demean others you’re doing it to yourself. When you bless them, you bless yourself.

Give it a shot. When you take time for prayer or meditation today, whatever that looks like for you, send blessings to those you don’t care for or understand.

You will be surprised at the level of peace you can achieve when you stop raging against what you don’t like and start cultivating more compassion for what you don’t understand.

I would never do what I see many people around me doing every day, but I’m not mad at them about it. My heart sees the suffering in their heart and I have deep compassion for them. Does it always come easily, no. Many times I have to feel through my own anger and judgement about the situation, but I always understand it is that, my OWN anger, fear or judgement.

Even people in positions of authority(doctors, teachers, pastors, politicians, lawyers) have issues. You have issues, your parents had issues, their parents had issues. Get over it. Stop judging others by their issues and recognize you have your own. Take a deep breath and give everyone a break(yourself included.) When you accept your feelings as your own and stop blaming others, life gets really good.

It’s not always easy, but it’s very simple.

Bless your heart, bless their heart, bless all of our hearts. Everything really is OK. We’re all going to get through this and life will be even better because of it.

By the way, this bus… is your LIFE.

If you need to slow down, slow the hell down. If you need to make a turn, put on your turn signal and check your rear view mirrors.

Stop complaining about what’s wrong. Stop telling everyone the bad news. Stop spouting and sharing statistics that don’t support and uplift people. Find something good and appreciate it.

What do you want?

What area’s of your life would you like more control?

What parts of your world would you like to see changed?

Don’t know? Well think about it.

Oh, you do know? Great. Pick your whole self up and proceed in that direction.

Instead of walking around kicking the dirt acting like you just get what this mean ol’ world gives you, stand up and start moving yourself in the direction you want to go.

No one has control over you.

You get what you focus on whether you want it or not, so start noticing what you are giving your focused attention to.

Skip It

Great song, I didn't skip it!

Great song, I didn’t skip it!

By now, I’m sure most folks have had some experience with Pandora Radio or the like. Rather than watching the news, ridiculous reality TV or whatever crap might be on at any given moment, (while simultaneously being forced to endure countless erectile dysfunction/depression medication commercials that blast at three times the volume of the program) we choose to listen to music.

A few of my favorite features on Pandora are also important in my every day life. Thumbs up, thumbs down and skip it.

  • If I like(or love) a song, I give it the ol’ thumbs up. Pandora get’s the message that I like that particular song and gives me more like it.
  • If I don’t like the song (or hate it!), I just click the thumbs down. No problem. Hey, Pandora, I don’t like that one.
  • Then, my favorite of all. I don’t like the song or want something different? I just click… Skip it.

That’s it. Done. Moving on. I don’t like that song. I’m in the mood for something different. I don’t call Pandora and tell them to take the song down. I don’t tell anyone. I don’t get mad. I don’t justify why I don’t want it. I just skip it.

What if we all lived our lives this way? What if instead of pushing against everything you don’t like or judge as bad/wrong you just skipped it?

When it’s obvious you don’t like or want what you’ve seen… Great. Duly noted. Nothing more to do. From this point any fighting, shouting, justifying or defending only adds energy to the very thing you disapprove of. Even the most well intentioned post/conversation to “spread the word” about the terrible injustice only strengthens and gives it more power.

So, what do you do when faced with something frustrating, irritating, scary, worrisome or horrible. Breathe. Relax and take big deep breaths. Let the physical sensation accompanying the upset flow through your body until you feel the relief. You will feel relief. It’s natural for this energy to move and flow.

Now, immediately turn your attention and thoughts to what you would prefer. Just like your focus on the negative brings you more like it, when you focus on what you want, that grows as well. You get more and more of whatever it is you focus on, whether you like it or not. So, doesn’t it make sense to focus on what pleases you and makes you feel good and happy?

All governments being responsible and fair. The news media focusing on the much larger picture of what’s right in our magnificent world. Religions of the world actually doing good works rather than converting or condemning. Every human being recognizing they alone hold the power in their lives.

What is your true hearts desire?

How could you more easily focus on that?

What if you stopped looking at the world in terms of what you like and don’t like and just noticed what is?

What will your life be like when you move quickly past what’s wrong and focus easily on what would be better?

If you don’t like it, let yourself skip it. It’s only our attention to things that keep them swirling around in our lives. No worries, though! All it takes is the recognition of how to do it and a bit of practice. I’m here to help.

Alphabet Soup

Do you ever lie awake in bed at night and wish you could turn your brain off? Chores, bills, family issues running through your mind, one after the other. Things to do, business to handle, problems to solve and beside all of that, the world is going to hell in a hand-basket.

It’s really not, it just serves a handful of folks to make you think it is.

Not to worry, I can help.

Being human we all have this busy monkey mind problem. From where you may be right now, your thoughts can jump around from who’s done wrong, to what you’ve done wrong.

Focusing on what is bad, wrong, terrible, unjust, wrong, wrong, wrong(did I say wrong?) is the natural order of the day for most folks. If you think that’s just the way you are and it can’t change, you’re wrong.

It’s easy to refocus our minds with a bit of information and a couple of simple, easy tools in our belt to use when we need them.

Tip 1 – Get into your “Right Brain.”

As you know, our brain is divided into a right and left hemisphere. The left side of your brain is the analytical, critical thinking side(notice the word CRITICAL?), while the right hemisphere of your brain is where your creativity comes from. When your brain is running a mile a minute, say aloud or to yourself, “let’s get into our right brain.” It will help slow down the computer(your brain) and allow you to focus on something more pleasurable and relaxing.

Tip 2 – Give your brain a job.

Once you’ve gotten yourself into your “right mind,” consciously begin to think of other things. As I was lying in bed the other night trying to turn my brain off so I could get to sleep and rest easily, I started this little game in my head.

Using the alphabet, I started saying words that soothed me and focused me easily in a different direction(I was asleep by K). Coming up with the next word took all of my attention as I was searching for words that felt good so my busy mind was busy supporting me. You can’t keep thinking of what you don’t like if you are actively thinking about something else.

Below is the list of words I started compiling.

You can do it spontaneously or plan for it. Sometimes it helps to have a plan in place for moments when you know you could have a hard time focusing on the positive. Write them down on a piece of paper and just read them aloud or to yourself. Post your list in your car, on your bathroom mirror, the refrigerator or in your office.

Don’t let yourself spend too much time fretting, worrying or focusing on things that upset you. We, as human beings, are vibrational boomerangs. What you put out there you absolutely do get back.

So when you find yourself raging against the machine(any of them or their drivers) take a couple steps back and a big deep breath.

Allowing yourself to move the energy physically in the moment and placing your conscious focus on better feeling things move you away from what you don’t want and draw you closer to that thing or situation that you would prefer, that feels good.

Simply reading a list of positive, good feeling words is much more helpful and effective than complaining about what happened and repeating that story to as many people will listen. You may think sharing your woes feels good, but it actually only creates more of what you don’t want.

Give it a shot. Make your own list or use words from mine. When you find yourself focusing in a way that doesn’t feel good do yourself a favor and consciously turn it around.

Taking Right Action

Too often, you rush into action. Society tells you if you’re not busy, you’re a procrastinator.
Oh, and don’t be slow. That’s the worst thing – slow!

Action for the sake of action, however, doesn’t always yield the best results.

•     Should you jump into action before you really know what the best solution is, because waiting would make you look slow and indecisive?
•     If you really don’t know what to do, and need time to figure out the correct course to take, will you be viewed as a lazy procrastinator, good for nothing?
•     Once you’ve made a decision, do you stand by it, whether it works or not – because even worse than procrastinating or being slow is admitting you’re wrong?

Yikes!
You’ve been tricked by your own mind into believing that finding the problem will solve it – if you look long and hard enough at all the things that could go wrong, you’ll be able
to arm yourself with enough defenses to protect yourself and your stuff (umm – and your family, too, of course).

Problem with this is, you live in a universe based on a Law of Attraction. Whether you believe it or think it’s all just a bunch of hokum, it’s true. What you focus on, think about,
speak about – comes about. Looking for and finding problems only brings more problems.

If you remember from seventh grade Life Science with old Mr. Wilson (or whoever), the Earth and all matter in it are atoms, vibrating. Magnified even further, you – and
everything – are just oscillating fields of energy. Science has been saying this for over a hundred years, but the majority of people don’t know it.

Of those that do, most still live like someone else is controlling their lives.
